What are the Webs of Life?

So far, our team has identified three webs which together constitute the Webs of Life:  The Web of Meaning, The Web of Wellness and The Web of Awe.

Each Web of Life has the following features:

  • It is unique to each individual, whilst obviously influenced by their environment and life experiences
  • Ideally, it is self-defined for adults;  children, however, have evolving Webs which are greatly influenced by parents, siblings, family and school.
  • Webs of Life are shaped by our life experiences.  They evolve as we go through life, growing, relating, learning and changing.

DRAFT

This website has evolved over the past ten years or so.

In that time,I have run an internet website business, learned to teach meditation, added the spiritual world to my background as a former science teacher etc.

What has become clear to me that the world, perhaps more so the western world, has fallen victim to dualistic thought.  What does this mean?

It means that everything is seen through a lense of choice which make everything black or white.  Right or wrong, Winners or Losers; My views v your views. Believers v atheists. Scientific v spiritual. Rational v superstitious. my people v. other people; my ethnicity v other ethnicities.

It’s evident in the growth of political populism (Trump, Brexit) It’s obvious in much political discourse and extremist ideologies e.g. terrorism.

It’s very difficult to see any sort of resolution to this.  Bitterness, antagonism and absolutism are just too embedded.  I suspect that there can be no single winner in any of these “culture wars”

Referring to the USA, commentators are saying things like “Democracy, world-wide, may just fall off a cliff in 2024″
(Ressa; How to stand up to a dictator, late nov 22)

So, this site is my attempt to find a way to inclusiveness and common ground and harmony.  Even in the midst of the turmoil we witness daily, be in the war in Ukraine or climate disaster in Pakistan or political upheavals in many countries.

How might this work?

The idea is that by offering you a variety of tools—different sets of lenses, perhaps—that you will be able to see your own life more clearly.  Your strongly held views, your biases and prejudices, what’s reasonable and what’s irrational?

The Webs of Life I’m referring to are The Web of Meaning, the Web of Wellbeing and The Web of Awe.  They  overlap, but it’s worth examining them separately.
